description

At the University of Cambridge there is a large emerging research activity on materials for energy efficient information and communication technology, with a focus on materials discovery, and the development, optimisation and characterisation of novel materials to engineer change. This research activity requires the chemical surface analysis of materials and devices under a wide range of application relevant, environmental conditions. Rapid turnaround with controlled sample transfers from local processing and fabrication facilities is thereby essential to drive fast materials and device development cycles. Hence the University is now seeking to purchase a X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) system that can overcome the limitations of standard XPS and similar characterisation techniques by enabling high-throughput analyses of a wide range of materials (incl. liquids) in reactive conditions and atmospheres far above the high vacuum regime.
