description

DfT announced in May they are fast-tracking and expanding trials of rental e-scooters across the country to promote a green recovery from COVID 19. They will help mitigate the effects of current reduced public transport capacity and support other social distancing options on our transport infrastructure.

The trials will also provide evidence to inform final decisions about whether and how to fully legalise e-scooters in the UK.

Participating in this trial represents an opportunity for Buckinghamshire to understand the potential role for e-scooters in providing flexible on-demand mobility options for our communities.

The trial will provide us with the opportunity to:

Evaluate safety
Measure the transport mode-shift
Measure acceptability to other road users and the community and the public response to the trials
Inform future decisions around legalisation

We expect to select one operator to collaboratively develop an e-scooter trial for 12 months that is suitable for our communities.
