A40 Elmbridge Court Roundabout Improvements

A very busy roundabout and major access route into the centre of Gloucester off the M5, the Elmbridge Court roundabout is in need of redevelopment to improve its capacity. The proposed re-design of the roundabout will provide additional lanes on the approaches to the roundabout, 24 hour traffic signals of all arms except two (Cheltenham Road East and Elmbridge Court egress) and the construction of a ?straight on? two lane one way link through the roundabout from the westbound carriageway of the A40 Golden Valley Bypass to the A40 Gloucester Northern Bypass known as a ?hamburger lane?. All approaches to the roundabout will be widened. Widening of the A40 Golden Valley to five lanes on its westbound approach will take place on the northern side of the carriageway necessitating the need to extend two pedestrian subways and a culvert and the construction of two gabion retaining walls. All works will take place within the existing highway boundary without the need for land from third parties.

The proposed procurement route will be an Open Procedure using the NEC3 ECC form of Contract, Option A Priced Contract with Activity Schedule.

It is envisaged that work will begin in July 2016, to be completed by August 2017.
