description

Cambridgeshire County Council (Economy, Transport and Environment Department) seeks to increase walking levels of inactive residents from within the Greater Cambridge region (Cambridge city and South Cambridgeshire) in order to improve the health of its population. The Council is looking for innovative ways to promote walking particularly amongst those that live in deprived areas.

The aim of the project is to reduce physical-activity health inequalities by encouraging a culture of active travel in relatively deprived areas within the Greater Cambridge area.

We wish to target certain areas within the Greater Cambridge region where people would benefit most from taking daily exercise. Groups could include socially isolated people, as well as sedentary individuals which would help to create stronger local communities and to reduce the health risks.

Thus, the Council is looking for somebody to supply and deliver a programme that sets up and arranges walking activities in relatively deprived areas within the Greater Cambridge region. The programme will be required to specify the design, delivery and monitoring of the different interventions proposed.

The proposals need to be sustainable in the future and work within budget constraints. In addition, the outlined initiatives need to tackle the barriers that prevent people from being active.

Moreover, the proposals need to consider the following factors: carbon footprint, social isolation, health risks and well-being.

We require regular updates from commencement of the scheme until the end and will expect a final evaluation and report of the findings to be provided. In addition, a full report will be required at the end of the project, using the SEF template.

The purchase value is £30k. Close of project will be the end of December 2016.

DBS certificate will need to be provided by those delivering the project if it involves working with young people and vulnerable adults.

This is a specific opportunity for bidders to tackle inequalities in health through promoting and supporting people to develop healthier lifestyles within the Greater Cambridge area.
