description

The requirement is for a new fully enclosed, single unit, compact, ultra-high-precision CNC 5-axis milling machine with an integrated tool and workpiece changer with a proven capability to machine metal reproducibly to micron/submicron tolerances. An outstanding surface finish on the completed components is also a critical specification. The machine must have the capability to accept workpieces up to 350 mm in diameter and 200 mm in height.

The new CNC mill will be installed in the RAL Space Millimetre Wave Technology Group's Precision Development Facility (PDF) at the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
