description
Guildford Borough Council is seeking a creative and experienced interpretation consultant to help support development of Guildford Museum and Castle as a unified site and vibrant community and visitor attraction. This is part of our Arts Council England funded project, Your Stories, Your Museum, and is complementary to a capital development project for the site, currently in its early stages.
The consultant will lay the foundations for interpretation of the refreshed site, producing a strategy and outline plan that will direct us in unifying and enlivening our heritage assets and services. They will also support the Heritage team in trialling and evaluating different methods and styles of interpretation through the proactive involvement of the community. We are committed to developing our role as community facilitators to make certain that local people are involved, and invested, in the future success of the museum and castle and ensure our stories will engage, reflect and enthuse our target audiences.
Our objectives for the consultancy are:
- oTo support development of Guildford Museum and Castle as a unified site and vibrant community / visitor attraction by devising guiding principles, concepts and methods of interpretation for the site, the museum and its collections
- oTo help foster local involvement and engagement by identifying and developing opportunities for the community to contribute to planning, creating and delivering interpretation in the short and medium term
- oTo help the Heritage Team develop and evaluate storylines, styles and techniques of interpretation, their impact on audiences and cost effectiveness, by developing a number of trial schemes to be delivered by the Heritage team during 2017.
- oTo support and complement work on the Museum Development Project, liaising with other consultants and project teams to help create a special museum for Guildford
