Chewing Gum Removal from Pavements and Pedestrian Areas

Cheltenham Borough Council is seeking to appoint a supplier to provide a service to remove chewing gum safely from the major pavements and pedestrian areas of the town centre.

The four areas are shown on the attached maps (see Appendix A for:

The Promenade

High Street (Upper) and Strand

Lower High Street

Royal Well Bus Station

The Council requires the work to commence as soon as soon possible after the Easter Holidays, week commencing 11 April 2016. There should be no gaps in the completion of all four areas which ideally should take no longer than 12 weeks to complete.

The supplier would need to demonstrate due regard for Health and Safety and evidence that their operatives have undergone the required training to use any specialised equipment and be competent in COSHH – Control of Substances Hazardous to Health where applicable.

The working areas should be cordoned off each time so that members of the public cannot gain access to the areas being treated. The Council would expect that any cleaning chemicals that are proposed to be used are proven to be safe to the environment and not cause irreversible damage to the paving slabs, tarmac or concrete surfaces, or be hazardous if inhaled.

The supplier awarded this contract will be required to support the Council in providing information and a media / photo opportunity(ies) in order to publicise the activity and raise awareness of the chewing gum issues and the cleansing operation being undertaken.
