description
NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year (366 days in each leap year) to respond to people’s healthcare needs when: -
•It is not a life-threatening situation, and therefore is less urgent than a 999 call;
•The patients registered GP is not an option, for example when the Caller is away from home, the service can assess and direct to the nearest practice; •The Caller feels they cannot wait and is simply unsure of which service they require;
•The Caller requires health information or reassurance about what to do next
The NHS 111 service forms an integral part of the East Midlands vision for urgent and emergency care services. It plays a pivotal role in guiding members of the public to ensure they access the right care; at the right time; in the right place.
The East Midlands Clinical Commissioning Groups in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire & Lincolnshire expect, as a minimum, service providers to be capable of delivering the Core NHS 111 Commissioning Standard set nationally by the Department of Health and published by NHS England in June 2014. It is anticipated that the staff delivering the service will be an appropriate blend of trained advisors and clinicians, utilising a predefined triaging system alongside locally defined services to assess caller’s needs and most appropriate course of action.
