description

Works Scope

The remedial works to Thames Court Footbridge (over Upper Thames Street) comprise the following principal elements: -

A.Replacement of two cable stays to the bridge and re-tensioning of all stays, over carriageways and footways to Upper Thames Street
B.Bridge drainage maintenance cleaning and improvements
C.Replacement of stone stair treads to north and south stair flights
D.General maintenance cleaning/washing of soiled paintwork to structural members of bridge/stairs, together with cleaning/washing of retained footbridge paving

In order to implement items A, B and C, it is envisaged that full closures of Upper Thames Street to vehicular traffic in both directions will be required, which will not be possible during the working week.

It is expected that these works (A to C) can be completed within two weekend closure to traffic, although - as a safeguard- three weekend closures are being arranged with Transport for London within the contract period for this purpose.

The Cycle Superhighway is not to be closed during the works under any circumstances. If necessary, a local reduction to the width of the cycle lane will be permitted, with appropriate traffic management and measures to protect cyclists and pedestrians during key safety-critical operations (e.g. lifting or removal of bridge stays), to the prior approval of the highway authority (TFL)

Preliminary traffic management and diversion drawings have been produced, for the purposes of obtaining the necessary road closures and traffic orders in advance. However, the contractor will be responsible for developing these outline drawings into full working traffic management drawings, to the approval of the highway authorities (TFL and City) and for providing all traffic management and signage Due to the lead-in times for stone paving for the stair treads, these are being procured in advance by the City directly. The contractor will be responsible for taking delivery of and offloading these units and storing for use during the project.
