description

Buildings 268/270 provide an essential science facility (large animal husbandry) to APHA and Defra as a whole. It was licensed to ACDP3/SAPO3 in 2007, however, compliance with key ACDP and SAPO regulations requiring 'viewing windows' throughout the facility was not possible due to the building design.

A closed-circuit television (CCTV) system was therefore installed in order to monitor animal wellbeing and staff safety but this was only in the animal rooms and not in corridors and other animal areas.

A CCTV system is the only option for monitoring the welfare of the animals housed on study in the building but given the limitations of the current set up and the inability to install vision panels there is now the need to invest in an upgrade to provide a fully compliant, state of the art system that will allow 360° monitoring of the animal rooms and all other areas of the building. This will ensure animal welfare is monitored and for support is given to the safety of the staff within the facility.
