description

De Montfort University seeks to engage a suitably qualified and experienced Contractor to Replace HV transformer and associated HV switchgear located in Portland Building Sub-station at De Montfort University.

De Montfort University (DMU) owns and are responsible for an 11KV Electrical ring circuit that feeds 6 main buildings on campus: Clephan, Hawthorn, Hugh Aston, Vijay Patel, Kimberlin Library and Portland. Please refer to drawing; Portland HV Photographs.

The works detailed relate to the sub-station located at Portland Building on The Gateway. Currently, the 11 KV ring main unit is approaching 50 years of age with parts now unavailable and the transformer at nearly 40 years old has reached its 'end of life' as recommended for this type of plant. Both these items place a high risk of failure on the HV network and if this falls it will take down 6 of the largest student populated buildings on campus.

Full details of the requirements are set out in the Tender documents.
