The Bulk Haulage of Food Waste

Teignbridge District Council owns and operates its own Bulking Station to process the household dry recyclables it collects through its in-house kerbside sort collection service. Collections are made from approximately 60,000 properties at present. This number is set to rise to over 70,000 over the next two decades. It is the intention of the Council to introduce a new recycling collection service from September 2015. This will be a weekly service collecting paper, glass, cardboard, mixed plastics (including bottles, pots, tubs and trays), textiles and Food Waste. These will be collected on a single pass vehicle and all materials handled at the Council's Bulking Station on the Brunel Road Industrial Estate, Newton Abbot TQ12 4PB. As a result the Bulking Station will be undergoing a significant expansion with completion expected by August 2015 and includes an area set aside for the storage of skips into which the collected Food Waste will be tipped. The Council now wishes to procure a 'Haulage Contract' for the transportation of bulked Food Waste in skips. It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to provide a service that enables the efficient collection and haulage of Food Waste skips from the Bulking Station to its disposal point and for the return of the empty skip back to the Bulking Station.
