description

AHDB’s Recommended Lists for cereals and oilseeds are the definitive industry guide to cereal and oilseed varieties, giving levy-payers the information they need to select the correct variety for their businesses. The data from which the AHDB Recommended Lists are produced are based on the evaluation of field performance and quality characteristics of a range of varieties of crops under cultivation in the UK.

Disease resistance ratings are based on a combination of data from natural infection, recorded in field trials located within commercial crops and special inoculated plots. This tender covers the inoculated disease tests: the growing of plots, multiplication of disease spores and inoculation, recording of disease and the submission of data. It does not cover the co-ordination of the testing programme, the analysis of disease data or the calculation of disease ratings which are under a separate tender.

The trial sites:

  • Two sites are required (primary and secondary) for winter oilseed rape Phoma/light leaf spot and cereal yellow rust, eyespot, septoria nodorum and fusarium with the two sites being at least 30 miles apart.
  • Trials shown in Appendix 3 of the protocol as site 1 and those being grown at one site only will be considered the primary sites. As well as managing the inoculated disease trials, these operators will also be responsible for obtaining and multiplying the inoculum for both primary and secondary sites.
  • Operators who are unable to multiply and supply inoculum may tender for the secondary sites as described in 1 above.

Tenderers are invited to tender for one or more trials; the contracts will commence 1st July 2016 and continue until 31st October 2021 (covering harvest years 2017 to 2021).
