River Wye and River Lugg Sustainable Habitat Management

Project Aims

This funding will help to implement the restoration plan actions by:

• Targeting 30+ riparian farms where advice will be given on bankside stock management, positive soil and water management and assistance in applying for agri-environment schemes given.
• Manage the river banks in these farm locations to improve habitat quality and structure. These locations have been identified by the Wye and Usk Foundation (WUF) and confirmed by EA and NE, where exacerbated bank erosion is having a damaging impact on the notified features of the SSSI.
• Carry out habitat improvement work around Ballsgate Weir, Aymestrey in agreement with EA and NE.
• Following guidelines set out by EA and NE carry out stabilising habitat work near Lugg Green Weir as required.
• Install monitoring and photography for before, during and after the project to provide evidence for future projects.
