'HPC Midlands Plus' Tender 2016
A consortium of the Universities of Aston, Birmingham, Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham, Queen Mary and Warwick intends to purchase a High Performance Computing facility to serve regional industrial and academic research requirements. The facility will be used both for the running of locally developed codes and commercial packages. This system is funded by the recent EPSRC call for Tier 2 centres and therefore any proposed solution must be delivered, installed and acceptance tested by the 31st March 2017. In order to allow time for acceptance testing we expect the system to be installed by no later than the 24th February 2017.
The consortium intends to spend approximately £3,200,000 including VAT on purchasing the computer system. As a guide we expect that £3m will be spent on the x86 and storage component with the remaining £200k on the OpenPOWER component.
