Management of the Marine Environmental Monitoring & Assessment National Database

Deliver quality assured data for national and international marine environmental quality assessments.

To support delivery of the UK Government's marine reporting commitments under the UK's Marine Strategy and mandatory reporting requirements under the Oslo and Paris Convention (OSPAR).

To provide data to the International Council for the Exploration of the Seas (ICES), and the European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet) for the purpose of international marine assessments.

To support Defra's commitment to Open Data by making the data discoverable and accessible to members of the public and increase transparency in our assessments of the marine environment.

Scottish Government, the Agri-Food & Biosciences Institute (AFBI) and Department of the Environment, Northern Ireland (DOENI) also contribute funding for MERMAN enabling a UK response to the commitments referred to above.
