To provide toxicological services to HM Coroner for Blackburn, Hyndburn & Ribble Valley by way of being able to undertake a comprehensive range of forensic toxicology scientific analysis of samples of blood and urine and occasionally hair to ISO 17025 accreditation standards and to produce a report in accordance with criminal justice standards setting out those drugs identified and where potentially relevant to the cause of death and quantifying drugs present. The report should be capable of being interpreted by a pathologist in order to be able to establish a medical cause of death and on occasions as to how death occurred. Ideally, the report should be delivered to the Coroner within 28 working days; an enhanced service/fast track service is also desirable. Toxicologists should be available when required to attend inquests and to provide evidence on oath.
