<b>Introduction</b> Halton Borough Council is inviting quotations for the replacement of the cast stone pier cap and damaged brickwork to the gate pier at Birchfield Road South entrance to Victoria Park, Widnes. <b>Specification</b> Cast stone components to comply with BS1217:2008 'Cast Stone' - Specification. The colour and texture of the units are to match precisely existing cast stone components of neighbouring gate piers. The new bricks are to match precisely existing pier brickwork - <b>original specification</b> <b>in 2004 was Ibstock 'Roughdales Smooth Red'</b> <b> </b>Cast stone and brick components to be fixed with 1:3 cement mortar, colour matched to existing 10mm joints to be tooled as existing brickwork <b>Steel Reinforcements</b> 2no lengths of 10mm steel reinforcement bar to be inserted vertically into pre-drilled holes in top of mass concrete fill to brick pier and fixed with resin. The bottom and middle pier cap units are to be assembled around vertical bars and back filled with C15 concrete as work progresses. The base of top pier cap unit is to be drilled min 25mm deep and tops of bars to be fixed into drilled holes with resin. <b>Works</b> Remove the existing 'VICTORIA' cast stone unit from gate pier and dispose. Cut out damaged plinth stretcher from gate pier brickwork. Fabricate entire new cast stone pier cap assembly, as per Dwg. No. L/24/PierCap/01. Colour and texture finish is to match precisely the existing cast stone units on the neighbouring gate piers. Procure 1no. new plinth stretcher special corner brick, as per Dwg. No. L/24/PierCap/01. Colour and surface finish to match precisely the existing pier brickwork. (For info., original 2004 spec. was <i>Ibstock 'Roughdales Smooth Red'</i>). Contractor to transport to site new components and fix to the existing gate pier using 1:3 cement mortar colour-matched to that used in the existing pier brickwork. Install 2no. 10mm dia. steel reinforcing bars vertically into top of mass concrete fill to gate pier. Bars to be fixed with resin and pier cap void to be backfilled with C15 concrete as assembly progresses. The base of top pier cap component is to be drilled to a minimum depth of 25mm to receive tops of steel bars. The top unit is to be fitted over bar ends and fixed with resin. The submitted quote should be inclusive of all labour, plant and equipment costs, including any lifting hoists necessary to complete the installation.
