description

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) is commissioning a piece of research on the impact of energy costs on firms not currently recognised as ‘energy-intensive industries’ (EIIs) and eligible for existing government support. This specification summarises the required case studies containing information on the cost of energy and particularly electricity and its implications for investment decisions and UK competitiveness. While we recognise investment decisions are based on a multitude of factors, case study evidence can be influential in shaping policy decisions. We would like case study evidence of 9 companies and plants that have made the decision to relocate/move production or make new investments overseas, , where a material driver of location was energy costs and/or the impact of UK climate change policy on costs. The contractor must provide case studies showing the impact of UK energy prices, focusing on electricity prices, for a sample of 5 to 10 firms operating, previously operating, or previously considering operating in the UK.
