PHE - Porton Down Building 6 Roof Refurbishment

PHE require the refurbishment of Building 6 roof:

Building 6 is located at the west end of the main Porton site. It houses the main site steam boilers and provides accommodation for the PMC as well as a number of PHE and external departments. The existing roof coverings have reached the end of their serviceable life. The original finishes have been overlaid and there is significant evidence of the overlays breaking down.

There are several levels to Building 6 roof and the intention is to replace all finishes on every different level. All of the existing roofs have been laid to fall except for the highest section above the boilers which is flat. There is considerable ponding in several areas, possibly due to deflection of the existing roof decking.

None of the existing roofs have edge protection and only sections of the existing roofs have mansafes to permit safe transit on the roofs

During the project to replace the steam boilers it was highlighted the existing lightning protection system did not conform to current regulations.
