description
This proposal is a request for the extension of resource of a Specialist engineering consultant to work with the MCA in responding to Emission Reduction projects. This support is specifically sought to respond to the projects within the Emission Reduction function and lead
the team in this area. The initial timeline for this resource was 5 days, per week commencing 02.11.20 to end on 31.03.21. The proposal is to extend from 31.03.21 until 31.03.22 for another full year at 5 days per week. The Specialistengineering consultant will deliver a specific project on the Technology Matrix. This kind of skill set cannot be transferred. It takes years of working in a specialist hands on role to achieve these kinds of skill and knowledge and adjacent markets areahead of the Maritime Emission Reduction Industry on this. By having the consultant, it enables MCA to:- Provide expert engineering input to support the development, maintenance and delivery of the Maritime Future Technologies programme/work plan and to enable delivery against the plan. This will include advising on prioritizationof where we should focus our efforts/engagement. -Build expertise in implementation of new fuels from a regulatory perspective so that technical advice can be given to operators to design and build ships with new propulsion technologies and energy saving measures.-Supporting the development of maritime regulation (within MCA remit) and engagement with other regulators that have an interest to strategically enable the scale uptake of zero emission technologies to support the Government's ambitions set out in the Clean Maritime Plan.
