description
The scope of the RSSB Air Quality Steering Group covers all locations on the GB rail network including stations and depots. In Great Britain, there is little evidence available on overall emissions rates from train depots and how these emissions affect air quality in public areas surrounding the depot. At the request of various rail industry organisations, a detailed study is required in Great Britain to understand how train depots impact local air quality. The project will provide the freight and passenger sectors with accurate data on air quality levels at train depots and provide guidance to the industry on what measures can be taken to improve air quality, if and where required.
The main focus of this project will be on public health and nuisance rather than occupational health, although the results of this study may inform occupational health decisions. RSSB is commissioning a separate project focused on occupational health across the GB rail network - 'CLEAR: Air quality personal monitoring' (T1191).
Additional information: The contracting authority considers that this contract may be suitable for economic operators that are small or medium enterprises (SMEs). However, any selection of tenderers will be based solely on the criteria set out for the procurement.
