description

Requirement:

The Marine Litter Team at Cefas requires to purchase a single benchtop xenon lamp weathering chamber with chiller for the accelerated ageing of conventional and biodegradable plastics. Applications would mainly include small sized items (e.g. few centimetres ) and microplastics (powder form, items below 5 mm in size).

The weathering chamber should be ideal for the accelerated ageing of conventional and biodegradable plastics and exposure time under the lamp should be able to be related to an estimate exposure time under natural conditions.

The weathering chamber should ideally be designed to contain a specimen tray for the placement of at least 6 borosilicate glass tubes (or similar) for the exposure of the materials in different media (i.e. degradation in air, water and in sediment).

Specification as a minimum should include:

-Programmable Light and Dark Cycles
-Programmable Irradiance with Variable Set Points
-Programmable Test Duration in Hours/Minutes
-Chiller unit with integrated control
-Auto-Cal Irradiance System to ensure accurate Irradiance Settings
-1 Xenon Arc Lamp
-Calibration Equipment for quick and easy user calibration (e.g. irradiance smart sensor).
-Glass test tube holders and corresponding, appropriate sample tray

Equipment must be provided along with all additional items, fixtures and fittings required to make the equipment fully operational for the purposes it is required, taking into consideration:

-All equipment will be supplied as new from high quality respected manufacturers and suppliers
-Can meet the specification guaranteed to satisfy the requirements detailed in Schedule 1
-Where possible all equipment shall be commercially available 'off the shelf' systems.
-All equipment must be designed to operate in the conditions under which it will be used, including (but not limited to) potential exposure to water and high temperatures for survey equipment.
