description

NPL is looking for support for the design and construction of a new floating laboratory.

The floating laboratory is located on a Thames Water fresh-water reservoir just off the M25 near Heathrow. The raft is used for the test and calibration of underwater acoustic transducers and associated apparatus. There are fixed lifting swing gibs/davits for offloading of goods alongside the mooring points. Lifting capability of 1000 kg and 2000 kg SWL. Additional hand davits are also located alongside.

The raft has full three-phase electrical supply, communication cabling and pumps and purifies water direct from the reservoir.

The raft is accessed by boat from the shore side landing stage with mooring locations on each side of the raft.

Due to its age and condition NPL is looking to replace the entire facility with a similar structure and seeks support in the following areas:

1.Design of new facility, including laboratories and support accommodation and lifting gear
2.Construction of new facility
3.Decommission, removal and disposal of existing facility (may be in parallel with Item 2.)

NPL will employ a project manager and quantity surveyor and the contractor is expected to provide all other necessary design support.

NPL will issue a two-stage pricing document. Contractors will submit a fee for designing the raft. The cost of the build will be negotiated during the design phase.
