description
Current status / Background
The land has been used as a horticultural centre for many years, the existing greenhouses and ancillary buildings have been removed, leaving slightly contaminated land on which can be built, but not disturbed. The groundworks redevelopment of this area will enable the cemetery to continue to offer burial provision for its residents and extend the life of the cemetery where there are pressures on space availability.
The requirement
The HRC land was found to be contaminated and therefore cannot be used for traditional earthen burials. The contract involves the enabling works required in preparation for the installation of the mausolea and any remedial works needed for a functional office space on site. These include the renewing of the existing road structure, installation of storm water drains to an attenuation tank on site and run off into and adjacent brook. There are some minor building works in converting and extending an existing building into an office and public toilets, together with installation of new septic tank. The existing concrete bases to be strengthened to allow a 3rd party to install mausolea at a later date, new concrete bases laid with associated paving and landscaping. There will be a feature garden with some water feature and seating areas. The scheme will involve the provision for data, electrical and water services around the site, preparation of the fence to receive new gates by others, and the provision of parking areas complete with bollards and markings.
