description

A review of the technically feasible options for accelerating implementation of the geological disposal program.

The review will consider geology (host rock), hydraulic conditions, environmental setting, storage techniques (e.g., multipurpose canister), exploratory site characterization activities and available and potential future construction methodologies and techniques. Further, the review will evaluate the risks and opportunities, financial costs, and potential schedule impacts of identified technical options for accelerating the progression of a geological disposal facility in the UK. The review will acknowledge the statutory planning and environmental assessment requirements in the UK and the lessons learned from other similar national projects will be considered.
