description
Barking and Dagenham is London’s Growth opportunity. We have plans for 35,000 new homes and 10,000 jobs across seven growth hubs.
Growth of this scale will have a profound effect on the physical, social and economic character of the borough. To be successful and sustainable this must be based on a detailed understanding of people and place, which is why we need a compelling strategic vision for our parks and open spaces so we can:
| • | Prioritise, plan and commit resources to improve green spaces across the Borough; |
| • | Make the case to funders for increased external resources; |
| • | Make informed decisions about the future management of the service; and |
| • | Ensure future development is informed by open space needs and requirements and aligns with other corporate priorities. |
This is an exciting but challenging commission that in brief will comprise the following elements:
| • | A comprehensive and robust quantitative and qualitative assessment audit of the Borough’s parks and open spaces and associated facilities; |
| • | A consultation exercise with residents, stakeholders and partners to establish current levels of satisfaction and identify current and emerging needs, expectations, and aspirations; |
| • | Production of a new overarching Parks and Open Spaces Strategy for the Borough; and |
| • | Site specific development masterplans for a number of parks. |
For more detailed information please see the attached Consultants Brief.
