Cefas is initiating a Scientific Electronic Monitoring programme to collect robust data on commercial fish catches. In 2020 the programme will deploy Electronic Monitoring (EM) systems aboard six commercial fishing vessels operating in the south west of England (vessel selection is currently underway).
Cefas have procured the Black Box Electronic Monitoring systems from Anchor Lab K/S Denmark (http://www.anchorlab.dk/), which consist of the "Black Box" computer system, connected to a maximum of 5 HD cameras and various sensors.
Cefas requires a competent marine electrical engineer or suitable organisation to safely install the camera systems aboard commercial fishing vessels. These installations must be undertaken under the direction of a Cefas scientist who will, in conjunction with the vessel skipper, determine the best positioning for the cameras and sensors to provide the catch data required. Following each installation, Cefas will require a formal sign-off that the equipment is electrically safe.
