Designated Sites data Management System 2015-17 (G-cloud)

Natural England is looking for a solution that will allow us to manage all areas of our work relating to the following site designations:

• SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) – UK Designation - over 4,100 sites
• SAC (Special Area of Conservation) – European Designation – 252 sites
• SPA (Special Protection Area) – European Designation – 269 sites
• Ramsar (Ramsar Convention Site) – International Designation – 148 sites
• EMS (European Marine Site) – European Administrative Designation – around 50 sites
• MCZ (Marine Conservation Zone) – UK Designation – around 31 sites
• NNR (National Nature Reserve) - Managed by Natural England – 140 sites
• NNR (National Nature Reserve) - Managed by other organisation – 84 sites

Natural England’s responsibility is slightly different for each of the designations listed above. Any solution needs to be flexible enough to accommodate a range from full site management (NNRs) all the way down to acting in an advisory capacity (MCZs)

SAC and SPA sites are often referred to collectively as Natura 2000, or N2K.
