Job Title:- Assistant Director

Rate of Pay: ?700 to 800 per day (all inclusive)

Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: Remote/Sandwell Council House, Freeth Street, Oldbury

Start Date: To commence in October 2021

Brief description:

Sandwell is looking for an Assistant Director to support the DASS in the leadership and management of the directorate and taking forward a wide-ranging programme of transformation and service improvement. This will be for 3-6 months pending recruitment.

Core Responsibilities

The post holder will lead on the strategic challenge to transform services to meet local need and the corporate responsibilities of the council. This may challenge long standing historical practices which will require the post holder to have an inquisitive approach and be able to actively question assumptions and test propositions.

The post holder will demonstrate political astuteness, providing expert commentary and advice on their areas of strategic responsibility to influence and shape future service transformation and delivery

Post holder is required to understand how to deliver effective leadership, build good stakeholder relations and develop a strategically aligned and values-based organisational culture in order to achieve good organisational performance.

The post holder will have responsibility for the implementation and delivery of national, and regional policies at local level, and for the development and implementation of local policies, developing inter-agency and interdisciplinary strategic plans and programmes, with delegated organisational authority to deliver key Adult Social Care targets.

Management Responsibilities

Will be responsible for the strategic management of a group of teams and services and ensure the delivery of high quality day to day management of services and functions.

  • oHave responsibility of setting and managing budgets of up to ?60m
  • oWill be expected to deputise for the DASS (as required)

The post holder will be expected to be part of the On-Call rota for Adult Social Care and to participate in the emergency planning arrangements for Sandwell.

The post holder will need extensive experience in senior leadership within ASC preferably with both operational and commissioning experience.

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation and policy
  • Experience of leading transformation and change programmes
  • Collaborative worker able to build effective relationships with staff and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent leadership and decision making ability-able to act on own initiative.
